This is a voluntary, unremunerated (not paid) post based in Ireland
Purpose of the Role:
The Board provides strategic oversight and governance to ensure the organization achieves its mission and operates with integrity and transparency. A board member with allied health expertise will help to provide strategic guidance and professional insight into clinical services for children with additional needs, ensuring Sensational Kids continues to deliver high-quality, evidence-based therapy and support.
This role is ideal for individuals with allied health experience in paediatric services such as Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Play Therapy, Psychology, or related disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Insight & Governance:
- Advise the board on best practices in paediatric therapy and emerging trends in allied health.
- Ensure that service delivery aligns with clinical standards and meets the needs of children and families.
- Strategic Contribution:
- Participate in shaping organizational strategy, particularly in areas related to therapy services, quality improvement, and innovation.
- Support the development of policies that uphold ethical and professional standards.
- Quality & Risk Oversight:
- Provide input on clinical risk management and safeguarding practices.
- Help evaluate service outcomes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Advocacy & Networking:
- Act as an ambassador for Sensational Kids within the healthcare community.
- Assist in building partnerships with other health professionals and organizations.
Person Specification:
- Essential:
- Professional qualification and experience in an allied health discipline (e.g., Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy, Psychology).
- Understanding of paediatric therapy and family-centered care.
- Strong commitment to Sensational Kids’ mission and values.
- Ability to contribute strategically and work collaboratively at board level.
- Desirable:
- Experience in clinical governance or service development.
- Knowledge of the non-profit sector and/or previous board experience.
Commitment:
- Term:Â 3 years
- Time: 3-4 hours per month to attend 12 online board meetings per year, plus attendance at the quarterly online clinical governance sub-committee  meetings
- Prepare for meetings by reviewing papers and reports.
- Participate in ad-hoc discussions and events as required.
