This is a voluntary, unremunerated (not paid) post based in Ireland
Purpose of the Role:
The Board provides strategic oversight and governance to ensure the organization achieves its mission and operates with integrity and transparency. A Board Member with expertise in public affairs, including advocacy, and government policy will help strengthen the organization’s external engagement, influence policy development, and enhance its reputation among stakeholders, including government bodies, partners, and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Communications & Reputation Management:
Advise on public relations strategies to build and maintain a positive organizational image.
Support communication planning and stakeholder engagement.
Advocacy & Policy Influence:
Provide guidance on advocacy campaigns and public affairs initiatives.
Help shape organizational positions on relevant policy issues and legislative developments.
Help facilitate connections with government officials, policymakers, and key influencers.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Advise in developing strategies for effective communication with our stakeholders, and the public.
Promote transparency and trust through clear and consistent messaging.
Governance & Oversight:
Contribute to Board discussions on strategic priorities related to advocacy and public affairs
Ensure compliance with lobbying regulations and ethical standards.
Skills & Experience:
Proven experience in public affairs, advocacy, government policy, or public relations.
Strong understanding of media relations, stakeholder engagement, and policy development processes.
Ability to provide strategic insights and navigate complex political environments.
Excellent communication and networking skills.
Time Commitment: 3-4 hours per month
Attend scheduled Board meetings (typically monthly held online)
Prepare for meetings by reviewing papers and reports.
Participate in ad-hoc discussions and events as required.

Voluntary appointment for a 3 year fixed term

Reports to the Chair of the Board
