Dyslexia Matters

The books can be used to teach all children language patterns for reading and spelling, but they also include the knowledge and how to teach it that is best practice for those with dyslexia.

Effective ways of working with children who struggle to read, write and spell

There are three books in the Dyslexia Matters series. Taken together, these offer a rich and important foundation constructed of phonemes, phonological awareness and general phonics knowledge – in a nutshell, they cover all the basic sounds for spelling and reading a child needs.

So that children can grasp the patterns and connections between phonemes, it is best to work through the books in order.

However, you may find you only need to work according to age-leveled patterns. In that case:

  • Book 1 is aimed at 5- to 7-year-olds
  • Book 2 is aimed at 7- to 9-year-olds
  • Book 3 is aimed at 9- to 12-year-olds
