The Role: Community & Voluntary Board Member with Charity Funding Experience

The Organisation:

Sensational Kids is a social enterprise with charitable status that provides reduced cost therapeutic supports to children and adolescents with additional needs from our four regional Child Development Centres, which are strategically located in every province in Ireland.

Celebrating our 16th year in operation this year, Sensational Kids has already positively impacted the lives of over 10,000 children, saving their families over €3 million in therapy fees. Each week 300+ children avail of therapeutic supports at Sensational Kids.

In addition to training workshops and a newly launched online learning platform, for educators and parents, Sensational Kids also operates a Child Development & Learning Store, which is Ireland’s only child development and learning store that is run as a social enterprise to help fund it’s therapy services.

Sensational Kids is currently embarking on its most ambitious project to date, to build a 17,000 square feet National Child Development Centre on a greenfield site in Kildare Town.

General Trustee duties of a Charity Trustee

  • Comply with the Charity’s governing document

  • Act with Reasonable Care and Skill
  • Manage the assets of your charity

This Role:

Sensational Kids are seeking a trustee with a background in the Social Sector who has knowledge and experience of mixed funding streams for charitable organisations, including philanthropy, state-funding and traded income. Knowledge of different types of fundraising strategies including community, corporate, and relationship-based major donor fundraising is desirable.

The Board are particularly interested in individuals with recent and relevant experience in/or knowledge of community-based organisations undertaking capital projects.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing oversight of the strategic funding direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, and experience of fundraising/funding strategy formulation in the social sector.
  • Policy formation and implementation as required

Essential Skills/Qualities required for this role:

  • A deep appreciation and knowledge of the Community & Voluntary sector, including the nuances of social enterprises with charitable status and traded income.
  • A deep appreciation and knowledge of growing and scaling a charitable organisation.
  • Experience of philanthropy, state funding and traded income at a senior level to address funding challenges.
  • At least 2 years’ experience operating at a senior level within this sector.
  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
  • Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance

Board Meetings:

There will be six board meetings and four to six sub-committee meetings a year.

Meetings are held at Sensational Kids, Kildare Town with an option to join online

 

Term: 3 years
