Eleanor began her third-level education in Social Care. Eleanor experience predominantly in working with children who have disabilities and also in supporting children from disadvantaged areas. Throughout her career, Eleanor has also worked as a special needs assistant in numerous schools in Canada and Ireland.
After settling back in to life in Ireland, Eleanor began her play therapy training at the Children’s Therapy Centre in County Westmeath in 2016, where she completed extensive training and gained experience as a play therapist in numerous national schools in the Midlands. Eleanor has completed a series of creative group-work sessions which was successful in building the participants’ resilience and fostering useful coping strategies for school and home life. This group-work was largely based on mindfulness, drama, and creative arts and was successful in achieving all aims/objectives set out.
Eleanor carries out therapeutic play sessions based on a non-directive child-led approach. All work in the playroom is based on the therapeutic relationship with the child, and the trust and confidence which grow as a result of same. Eleanor has supported children in working through issues such as moving to a new home/country, language development, building social/play skills, changing family dynamics, increasing resilience, developing positive coping mechanisms, emotional regulation, and so on. Furthermore, Eleanor has worked with parents on developing positive parenting skills and assisting parents in supporting their children through the therapy process.
