Audiologist now taking bookings in Clonakilty

Michael Power joins our expanding Clonakilty team in July. A graduate of the school of Audiology, Institute of Laryngology and Otology, Royal National Ear, Nose and Throat hospital, Gray’s Inn road, London and University College London medical school, he is a highly experienced and professional clinical audiologist.

Most recently, Michael has worked as a senior audiologist in Cork, dealing predominantly with patient referrals from ear, nose and throat consultants and has executed hearing tests for adults and children as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Prior to this, he worked on the senior audiology team in one of the largest children’s hospitals in the United Kingdom, Alder Hey, Liverpool. He was stationed in a busy Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) and Visual Reinforced Audiometry (VRA) clinic, where his duties included taking ear mould impressions for hearing aids and swimming moulds. Michael assisted patients with craniofacial abnormalities, cleft palate and otoacoustic emissions. Moreover, he constantly liaised with consultant ENT surgeons, ENT specialist nurses and speech and language therapists.

When you visit Michael at Sensational Kids in Clonakilty, he will provide a comprehensive examination for your child; including evaluation, rehabilitation and prevention of impairment through diagnostic testing and industrial hearing screenings.

Following the hearing test, Michael will choose and dispense the appropriate instruments that best meet the needs of the child. If necessary, Michael may recommend further investigation and referral to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) surgeon.

A hearing test may be required if your child is having difficulty locating sounds, does not seem startled by extremely loud noises or has failed a hearing test in school. Perhaps they don’t have the ability to produce and understand spoken words and quite often talk very loudly. It may be as simple as constantly asking people to repeat what they have said, be prone to ear infections and head colds, where they tend to pull on their ear. They may significantly turn up the sound of TV, tablet or other devices to an uncomfortable volume for others.

If you are concerned about your child’s hearing, or wish to make an appointment with our audiologist Michael, please call us on 02388 78208.
